Job Description:
- We are looking for a Desktop Engineer/Architect with at least 5 years of hands-on experience in Desktop Engineering to join our Workplace Technology Infrastructure Engineering Team. In this role, you’ll provide advanced technical guidance and design solutions to support our global community of end users.
Key Qualifications:
- Proven experience with modern desktop management leveraging Microsoft Intune
- Background in using Microsoft Configuration Manager (MCM) for desktop management
- Skilled in preparing and managing OS images for enterprise deployment using Microsoft Windows Autopilot and Task Sequences within MCM
- Strong automation abilities with tools like PowerShell and other scripting languages
- In-depth knowledge of Azure Runbooks and the Microsoft Graph API for automating workflows
- Proficiency in diagnosing and troubleshooting desktop issues using industry-standard utilities
Responsibilities:
- Utilize and enhance Intune capabilities to transition to a modern desktop management environment
- Implement "Modern Management" techniques for distributing software and driver updates through Intune
- Oversee and update Windows imaging processes, leveraging Autopilot and Task Sequences for both physical and virtual machines
- Handle software packaging and deployment preparation using Intune and Microsoft Configuration Manager
- Assess business requirements for enhancements or refreshes to existing infrastructure technology
- Collaborate with internal teams to establish and uphold desktop architectural standards while identifying areas for optimization
- Monitor advancements in technology to ensure our desktop architecture remains current and effective
- Provide training and support to junior IT staff (Tier 1 and Tier 2) on new technologies and solutions deployed
Experience and Skills Required:
- 5–10 years working in Desktop Engineering or a closely related field
- Strong knowledge of infrastructure security concepts (e.g., least privilege, zero-trust, MFA)
- Experience deploying and managing enterprise configuration tools like Microsoft Configuration Manager, Intune, and Ivanti
- Expertise in building and customizing Windows and thin-client images (including iGel and Wyse)
- Ability to create and maintain reports utilizing PowerBI, Microsoft Graph API, and SQL
- Familiarity with cloud environments, including Azure, AWS, and Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD)
- Advanced proficiency with core Microsoft applications such as Office 365 and Teams
- Extensive experience with automation, particularly through Azure Runbooks and the Microsoft Graph API
- Solid grasp of Active Directory and Group Policy management
- Demonstrated coding ability, especially with PowerShell, VBScript, or Python
- Understanding of ITIL frameworks, project management principles, and change/release management best practices
- Experience supporting environments post-implementation, ensuring continued stability and reliability ("Day 2" operations)
